Japanese grant for rehab for trafficking victims

KATHMANDU, NOV 06 - Japan has provided a grant support of USD 89,907 to a Nepali organisation, Shakti Samuha, for the implementation of the Project for Construction of Safe Home for Increasing Rehabilitation to Victims of Trafficking in Gokarna.

According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu, a grant contract to this effect was signed and exchanged on Friday between Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Tatsuo Mizuno and President of Shakti Samuha Chariy Maya Tamang. The financial assistance has been extended under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Japanese government.

The grant will be utilised for the contruction of a three-storey building for children and women victims of trafficking as a solid base for rehabilitating survivors of trafficking, and providing care and assistance to enable them to become economically independent, the statement read.
