BIRATNAGAR, OCT 30 - The UCPN (Maoist) on Friday withdrew the indefinite strike it had called in eastern districts of Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta and Tehrathum to protest the killing of two party men.

The Maoists called off the stir after rights groups, entrepreneurs and other professionals jointly pledged to appeal to the government to meet their demands. The regional administration chief Dharanidhar Khatiwada committed to convey their demands to the centre.

However, the Maoists have warned of launching strong protests if their demands are not fulfilled within a month. The party had resorted to shutdown from Thursday demanding action against murders of Lagan Limbu and Laxmi Banem-- both members of the Maoist-affiliated ethnic group Limbuwan Rajya Samiti-- in Taplejung district recently.
