Govt ready to face Maoists agitation: Info Minister
RUKUM, OCT 28 - Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokhrel said on Wednesday that the government is ready to face the Maoists' agitation.
Speaking at a press meet organised in Musikot today, the Information Minister said the government would be compelled to adopt an alternative means if the Maoists continued to obstruct the parliament.
"The fiscal budget will be passed either though a majority vote or ordinance as the government cannot move ahead without budget," said the Minister.
He said the government will not bow down though the Maoists seem to believe that the people's movement can find an outlet to the present crisis as protest programmes are obvious in a democracy.
On Tuesday, the main opposition party UCPN-Maoist unveiled its protest programmes to press the government to fulfill its demands.
The Information Minister said the government has decided to monitor the media houses to figure out if they have implemented the Working Journalists Act. He said the government will stop providing advertisements to those media found not abiding by the Act that has already been enforced.
Minister Pokhrel opined that journalists should assist the government to implement the working journalists act.
