KATHMANDU, OCT 28 - The former rebel party Unified CPN (Maoist) Wednesday urged the United States to remove its designation from the Terrorist Exclusion List (TEL) orgnaisations.

The US still list the Maoists, which is now the largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), in the TEL. According to US Department of State, “Individual aliens providing support to or associated with TEL-designated organizations may be found “inadmissible” to the US, i.e., such aliens may be prevented from entering the US or, if already in US territory, may in certain circumstances be deported.”

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal who is still popular by his nom-de-guerre Prachanda, meaning the fierce one, made such request to Acting US ambassador to Nepal Jeffrey Moon at the former’s residence in Nayabazaar on Wednesday morning.

According to Maoists foreign affairs chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the duo held discussion on removing its tag from the list, Maoists-US relationship, ongoing political deadlock, peace process, constitution drafting, army integration and other issues.

"US is positive on the issue," Mahara claimed.

The Acting US envoy reached Dahal's residence to discuss recent political situation that has emerged following the Maoist's declaration of fresh protest.

The US had earlier urged the Maoists to renounce violence and intimidation and said that it can remove them from their terrorist list and treat them like any other political party if it separates from their arms, renounce violence and establish their credentials as a peaceful entity.
