Lankan Prez Rajapaksa arriving on Thursday
Rajapaksa is the only head of state visiting Nepal after the country became a Federal Democratic Republic.
KATHMANDU, OCT 28 - Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa is arriving here in the capital on a three-day official visit to Nepal on Thursday. Rajapaksa is the only head of state visiting Nepal after the country became a Federal Democratic Republic. This is his second visit this year. His earlier visit in March was cut short due to the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan.
"The earlier visit was incomplete after the incident occurred in Pakistan. So he is visiting the second time," said Rudra Kumar Nepal, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the ministry, he will be accompanied by more than 50 delegates, including his spouse Shiranthi Rajapakse, a team of ministers, senior officials, and security officials. A Lankan minister and a team of security officials is already in the capital closely following the President's visit and local security arrangements.
According to the ministry, Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koairala and Minister for Federal Affairs, Constituent Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Minendra Rijal will welcome Rajapaksa at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Minister Koirala will pay a courtesy call on the President on Thursday afternoon. Likewise, Rajapakse will call on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Oct. 30.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal will call on Rajapakse on the same day. The Lankan President will also visit Lumbini and observe a monastery constructed with Lankan assistance on Friday. Minister Rijal will accompany the President to Lumbini.
He will also meet former prime ministers, Girija Prasad Koirala and Puspha Kamal Dahal. Rajapaksa will leave for Colombo on Oct. 31.
