UNMIN Chief calls on Maoist, UML leaderships
KATHMANDU, OCT 25 - United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief Karin Landgren held separate meetings with Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal on Sunday.
Landgren met them prior to her departure for New York to take part in the meeting of UN Security Council (SC).
Emerging from the meetings, the UNMIN Chief said they held discussion on taking peace process to a logical conclusion, implementing peace accord, among other issues.
The UNMIN Chief also informed that during the meeting with Maoist Chairman Dahal at the latter's residence in Nayabazar, they discussed rehabilitating the disqualified Maoists People's Liberation army (PLA) and forging consensus at the earliest.
Likewise, during the meeting with UML Chairman Khanal at his residence in Dallu, the UNMIN Chief expressed her concern over the peace process saying differences among the political parties have hindered peace process, Khanal said.
Landgren also opined that it is wrong to review the peace accord.
The UNMIN chief is leaving for New York on Monday to take part in the mid-term evaluation of UNMIN’s current mandate in the SC on Nov 6.
