Bhandari’s remarks are against peace deal: Gurung
NAWALPARASI, Oct 24 - Unified CPN (Maoist) leader and former minister Dev Gurung on Saturday said Defense Minister's statement is against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and added that his party has been taken aback by it.
Speaking at a programme organised in Bardaghat of Nawalparasi district today, Gurung said that Defense Minister Bidya Bhandari's recent statement regarding the army integration breached the peace accord. "It is time take the peace process to a logical conclusion by accomplishing the task of army integration," he said, adding," We are surprised at the Defense Minister's remarks. They offend the peace deal."
Minister Bhandari has been saying that some clauses in the CPA have hindered Nepal Army's 'activeness' and that the CPA should be revised.
Her statement had also drawn the attention of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief Karin Landgren. Recently, the UNMIN chief raised concerns about the Defense Minister’s remarks during her discussion with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Civil disobedience if demands not addressed
Leader Gurung also said that his party will launch 'civil disobedience' if the parties fail in addressing the Maoist demands within the given deadline, which is Nov.1.
Saying that it is stupid on part of the other parties to try to move ahead by sidelining the Maoists, the former minister charged that some national and international forces are trying to invite civil war in the nation by not allowing House debate on President's 'unconstitutional' move.
