Task force fails to forge consensus
KATHMANDU, OCT 22 - Consensus to resolve the ongoing political deadlock could not be reached as of Thursday evening.
A meeting of the three-party task force, comprising the major three parties, that took place at Singha Durbar in the capital on Thursday failed to reach an understanding on ending the protracted the House impasse.
Though the major parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and opposition party Unified CPN (Maoist)—presented themselves in a flexible manner, they could not forge consensus on the language that should be used in the joint draft proposal.
The Maoists have not retreated an inch from their earlier demand of mentioning President's move to reinstate the then army chief as 'unconstitutional' in the draft proposal.
On the other hand, the NC and UML are still firm with their stance of not incriminating the six-month old President's move.
Emerging from the meeting, Maoist leader Dev Gurung, also a member of the three-party task force, said," Certainly there has been some progress. We can expect to reach consensus by next meeting".
NC spokesperson and member of the task force Arjun Narsingh KC said," We can say that the talks is heading towards consensus".
