BARA, OCT 14 - Lawmaker Baban Singh threatened to bring the journalists, who do not write news about Madhes and Madhesi (Tarai and the people of Tarai), to their senses. The idiom he expressed to issue the threat is generally used here in the district to challenge one’s enemy.

Speaking at a conference organised in Jeetpur as part of the Tarai Madhes Loktantriak Party (TMLP)’s democratic campaign, Singh said, “The journalists who do not write in favour of Madhes and Madhesi people are our enemy.” He said that he would not spare such journalists.

Baban, who is listed by police as one of their “most wanted criminals”, won the election from Rautahat district constitutenty-1 with a substantial margin as an independent candidate joined the TMLP later.

Singh said that the Tarai region has lag behind owing to the lake of positive write-ups and news about the Madhes and Madhesi.

TMLP Chairman Mahanta Thakur, Hirdayesh Tripathi, Jeetendra Son among other central leaders and lawmakers were attending the programme where the mediapersons also reached for coverage.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepali Journalists expressed its concern over and condemned Singh’s threat.
