KATHMANDU, OCT 02 - A Nepali migrant worker was shot and killed at Spartanbug-area in the South Carolina state of the U.S. later Wednesday night.

The migrant worker identified as Rabindra Sharma, 40--the co-owner of the store—was among the two persons killed during an apparent robbery at Spartanburg-area convenience store late Wednesday night, according to WYFF4 news website. Most of his family is in Nepal.

It happened at the Citgo at 1001 North Church Street just after 10:30 p.m.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger said one of the victims was a clerk who was working Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The co-owner was moaning and holding his abdomen when the police arrived on the crime scene. Emergency crews took him to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where he later died, he said.

Investigators were looking for a person seen in the area at the time of the crime, but the sheriff did not release a description. He said he wanted to make sure the person was actually involved in the case and not just a bystander.

Krishna Kandel is the other co-owner of the Citgo store. He told News 4 that he and his partner just took over ownership of the property in July.

"(Our) friendship is like more than 20 years,” Kandel said. “We (graduated) college together, from Nepal. (He was a) very nice man."

He got a call from the police while he was sleeping Wednesday night, Kandel said. He called the deaths “very sad,” and said he is now scared to go back to work.

"I think about (it) sometimes, robbery,” Kandel said. “But (I) never think about, like, (death.)”

Bravo started at the store about three or four weeks ago, Kandel said. He and the two other employees were the only other ones who worked at the store. Kandel said he also sometimes works nights.

"Last night, if I were working, that could've been me," Kandel said.

Kandel said he has not talked to the families of the victims yet. He also does not know if he'll reopen

"If somebody knows who did that … please let the police know.” Kandel said. “I'm very shocked right now."

The crime unfolded near the intersection of Highway 221 and Highway 9, a place familiar to law enforcement, according to Wright.
