KATHMANDU, SEP 25 - The Ministry of Health (MoH) has declared one new case of Pandemic Influenza A1H1-2009, more commonly known as Swine Flu, in Nepal. This incident raises the number of confirmed cases in Nepal to 36.
According to the MoH statement, the virus was detected in a 36-year-old Nepali male who had come from Saudi Arabia. The earliest symptoms of flu were detected, and the patient was cured without medication.
Dr. Jeetendra Man Shrestha, Deputy Coordinator of the Avian Influenza Control Project (AICP), said that this variation of Pandemic Influenza A/H1N1 is not severe in 99 percent of cases, and can be treated at home.
He added that this variation had not spread to communities in Nepal yet and urged all patients suffering from respiratory problems to immediately contact their doctor, to prevent any further spread.
The Ministry has placed health desks at Tribhuvan International Airport and other 10 land routes--Tatopani, Kakadvitta, Rani, Birjung, Sunauli, Jamuna, Gadda Chauki, Kailali border and Dhanusa--to monitor and control the possible entry of the disease.
