Statute possible in five days, if consensus: Maoist secy
Only consensus has to be forged. We even have experts who have written the constitution of other countries. If we work days and nights, constitution can be written in five days
SINDHULI, SEP 22 - Unified CPN (Maoist) Secretary CP Gajurel Tuesday said the constitution can be drafted within five days if consensus is forged among the political parties.
“Only consensus has to be forged. We even have experts who have written the constitution of other countries. If we work days and nights, constitution can be written in five days,” he said at a press meet organised by Revolutionary Journalists’ Association here in Sindhuli.
The Maoist Secretary also clarified that the party’s agitation is not intended at toppling the government.
Stating the party will not form a new government until civilian supremacy is upheld and the president’s move is corrected, he added, “Our agitation is not for pulling the government down.”
No revolt after Tihar
At a time when Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been warning to launch people’s revolt after the Tihar festival, secretary Gajurel said people’s revolt will be waged only when the people want it.
But the people have been called upon to be ready due to the possibility of a new revolt, he quickly added.
He opined the Maoists are readying for people’s revolt because there are clear signs that the “pro-government” parties are planning to oppress the Maoists and promulgate the constitution as per their interest.
Referring to Congress vice president Ram Chandra Poudel’s remarks about imprisoning Maoist leaders, he claimed the statement was not personal but a part of a “design.”
PLA won’t leave cantonments
Meanwhile, Gajurel denied the reports of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel leaving cantonments.
The army who have been enjoying Rs 5,000 every month will not leave cantonments, he reasoned.
He added they are not stupid since they can be generals and colonels after the integration.
